Current Events

Summer Camp for 2011 has come to a close and what a great time we had!

Camp was held at the Amarillo Girl Scout Camp, Camp Kiwanis this year.  This venue offered campers a more rustic, back to nature, experience.  Each camper was given a bed roll upon his/her arrival to camp.  While no one needed extra covers at night (it was very hot), most of our campers admitted they had never owned a bed roll before.  Another new activity this year was "Make a Movie" night.  Richard Wilcox of Chase Productions donated his time and materials Tuesday night and helped the kids shoot a movie!  Everyone had a great time and were able to take home an actual DVD of their movie!  Check back soon and you will be able to download a copy and watch on your computer!  It is a truly spell-binding thriller with top-notch acting!

We also enjoyed a Day at Splash Amarillo and an evening at Wonderland Amusement Park.  On the final day of camp, each camper was given a new backpack donated by Wal-Mart.  Each year, Camp Cactus receives numerous gifts from Amarillo Wal-Marts in the form of monetary donations and supplies and goods. Thank you Wal-Mart!!  Each pack was filled with supplies donated by the BSA Hospital's Business Office.  This group continues to be a devoted Camp Cactus sponsor giving graciously from their hearts.

And as the last camper climbed into mom's car, would you believe that our camp director was already beginning to plan Summer Camp 2012?!  Yes indeed, and it will be another first for Camp Cactus!!

Obtaining Camp Applications

You are welcome to obtain and fill out a Camp Cactus application at any time for consideration.  Camp applications are filled out and submitted for Summer Camp.  Applications are reviewed by the board of directors just prior to the summer camp event.  Campers are notified if they have been accepted.  Our space is limited so please understand that filling out an application does not guarantee acceptance to camp.  We determine the number of spaces each year based upon the funds we have available and the number of adults that are able to volunteer.  Applications must be obtained by Camp Cactus directly or downloaded from this site.  Our applications change from year to year so a new set must be filled out each year.
